PartnerDock: The Affiliate Platform Built for Shopify App Founders After Mantle

PartnerDock: The Affiliate Platform Built for Shopify App Founders After Mantle

Mantle Affiliates is winding down, leaving many Shopify app founders searching for a reliable affiliate platform. Learn why PartnerDock was built specifically for Shopify app companies, how it simplifies affiliate management, and what to consider before migrating.

By Yuvraj Kewate · 2026-06-25

For years, Mantle became one of the most trusted platforms in the Shopify app ecosystem.

It wasn't just another SaaS product.

It quietly powered many of the operational workflows that app founders depended on every day, including affiliate management, billing, usage tracking, email, analytics, customer support, and developer tooling.

When Mantle announced that it would wind down its services, it wasn't simply another software shutdown.

For many Shopify app companies, it meant rethinking the systems that had become part of their daily operations.

One of the biggest questions founders began asking was:

What should we use for affiliate management now?

The answer isn't simply finding another affiliate tool.

It's finding a platform that understands how Shopify app companies actually grow.

That's why we built PartnerDock.

But before we talk about the product itself, it's worth understanding why affiliate management for Shopify apps is different from almost every other SaaS business.

Thank You to the Mantle Team

Before diving into migration strategies and alternatives, we want to acknowledge the impact Mantle had on the Shopify ecosystem.

Building developer infrastructure is one of the hardest challenges in SaaS.

It often happens behind the scenes. When everything works, nobody notices. When it doesn't, entire businesses are affected.

For years, Mantle became an essential part of many Shopify app companies. Thousands of founders relied on it to manage billing, affiliates, customer lifecycle workflows, reporting, and operational infrastructure.

Many of us, including the team behind PartnerDock, recommended Mantle to founders countless times over the years.

Its success helped strengthen the Shopify app ecosystem, and its wind-down marks the end of an important chapter.

We have enormous respect for the team and everything they built.

Understanding the Mantle Wind-Down

Mantle has announced that the majority of its services will wind down on August 14, 2026, with Mantle Billing continuing to operate until September 30, 2026 for existing customers.

As part of its transition guidance, Mantle has also published migration documentation to help founders move to alternative platforms based on the specific products they use.

One important takeaway from the announcement is that there isn't a single replacement for Mantle. That's because Mantle evolved far beyond affiliate management. Over time it became a collection of products serving different operational needs.

For many founders, migration will involve selecting different tools for different workflows. For example:

Mantle CapabilityMigration Path
BillingShopify billing infrastructure or billing platforms
EmailLifecycle marketing platforms
Customer SupportHelpdesk software
AnalyticsProduct analytics tools
Affiliate ManagementDedicated affiliate platforms like PartnerDock

Rather than looking for another all-in-one platform, many teams are now choosing purpose-built software for each part of their business.

In our view, that's a positive shift. Purpose-built software generally evolves faster because every feature is focused on solving one specific problem exceptionally well.

Affiliate Programs Have Become One of the Most Reliable Growth Channels for Shopify Apps

Growing a Shopify app has become increasingly competitive. Founders invest in content marketing, SEO, paid advertising, App Store Optimization, community engagement, and partnerships.

Among all of these channels, affiliate partnerships continue to be one of the most consistent ways to acquire qualified merchants.

Why? Because recommendations carry trust.

A Shopify agency recommending an app to its clients. A YouTube creator reviewing tools they genuinely use. An ecommerce consultant sharing their preferred tech stack. A newsletter highlighting useful Shopify apps.

These recommendations often convert better than paid advertising because they come from trusted voices within the ecosystem.

But running an affiliate program isn't as simple as handing someone a referral link. As a program grows, founders quickly encounter questions like:

  • Which partner referred this merchant?
  • Did the merchant actually install the app?
  • Did they become a paying customer?
  • Should commissions be recurring or one-time?
  • Which partners generate the highest lifetime value?
  • Which affiliates deserve higher commission tiers?
  • How should payouts be managed each month?

These are operational challenges, not marketing challenges. And solving them well can determine whether an affiliate program scales successfully.

Why Shopify App Affiliate Programs Are Different

Most affiliate platforms were originally designed for ecommerce brands or traditional SaaS companies. Shopify apps operate differently.

Unlike ecommerce stores, Shopify app companies don't sell physical products. Their customer journey includes Shopify App Store discovery, app installation, free trial, merchant activation, subscription conversion, and ongoing recurring revenue.

At every stage, attribution becomes more complicated.

A founder isn't simply asking: "Who generated this sale?" They're asking:

  • Who referred the install?
  • Did the merchant activate?
  • Did they become a paying customer?
  • Are they still subscribed six months later?
  • Which agency consistently sends merchants who retain?

Answering those questions requires much more than click tracking. It requires a platform built around how Shopify apps actually operate.

Why Generic Affiliate Software Often Falls Short

There are many excellent affiliate platforms available today. Most of them solve affiliate management extremely well for ecommerce stores or broader SaaS businesses.

However, Shopify app founders often need capabilities that generic affiliate software wasn't originally designed to support.

Merchant attribution. App companies need confidence that a referred merchant actually installed the app, not just that someone clicked a link.

Recurring SaaS revenue. Many Shopify apps operate on recurring subscriptions rather than one-time purchases. Affiliate programs often need recurring commission models to match.

Shopify App Store journeys. Users don't always land on a traditional marketing website. They may install directly from the Shopify App Store, making attribution more complex than standard ecommerce purchases.

Partner relationships. Many referrals come from agencies, consultants, Shopify Experts, implementation partners, and ecosystem businesses rather than traditional affiliates. These relationships often require different commission structures and management workflows.

As more Shopify app founders experienced these challenges, it became increasingly clear that the ecosystem needed software built specifically around app partnerships, not adapted from ecommerce affiliate software.

Why We Built PartnerDock

The idea for PartnerDock didn't begin with software. It began with conversations.

At The SaaS Hub, we spend every day working with Shopify app founders. We help companies improve discoverability, content, partnerships, and ecosystem growth.

Over 800+ one-on-one calls with founders across 6+ years in the ecosystem, one theme kept coming up: affiliate programs were being run badly, or not run at all, because the infrastructure wasn't founder-friendly.

Following Mantle's announcement, that conversation intensified. Founders weren't just asking: "What affiliate software should we use?" They were asking:

  • "How do we migrate without disrupting our partners?"
  • "Will existing referral links still work?"
  • "Can we keep our commission structures?"
  • "How do we avoid rebuilding everything from scratch?"

Those conversations shaped PartnerDock from the beginning. Rather than trying to recreate Mantle, we focused on building a platform dedicated to one thing: helping Shopify app founders build, manage, and grow successful partner programs.

Nothing more. Nothing less. That focus continues to guide every product decision we make.

PartnerDock: Built Around the Way Shopify App Companies Grow

PartnerDock isn't trying to be another all-in-one business platform. Every feature is designed around the workflows that affiliate managers, founders, partnerships teams, and developer relations teams deal with every day.

Whether you're launching your first affiliate program or migrating hundreds of existing partners from Mantle, the platform is designed to reduce operational work while giving partners a better experience.

Launch an Affiliate Program in Under 10 Minutes

Launching an affiliate program involves much more than generating referral links. You need a process for accepting applications, reviewing potential partners, setting commission structures, sharing marketing assets, tracking referrals, and managing payouts.

Without dedicated software, these tasks quickly turn into spreadsheets, email threads, and manual calculations. PartnerDock brings these workflows into a single platform.

During onboarding, founders set their commission type (revenue share, fixed install bounty, first month only, recurring for X months, or lifetime), payout threshold, and approval mode (manual or auto-approve). Once set up, a branded affiliate signup page is live at getpartnerdock.com/p/[your-app]. Affiliates land here, apply, and get approved automatically or after your review.

The whole process takes under 10 minutes.

Give Every Partner Their Own Portal, With the Right Links

One of the biggest operational challenges in affiliate management is answering the same questions repeatedly: What's my referral link? How many merchants have I referred? When will I get paid?

PartnerDock gives every approved affiliate their own portal with answers to all of these, without needing to email you.

Something worth highlighting: every affiliate gets two referral link formats shown side by side.

The first is a PartnerDock tracked redirect link (getpartnerdock.com/r/[code]) that sets a 30-day first-party cookie and logs every click. The second is a Shopify App Store direct link in the same format Mantle used (apps.shopify.com/your-app?mref=[code]).

This matters for Mantle users specifically. Any links your affiliates have already published, in YouTube descriptions, blog posts, agency websites, newsletters, continue to work automatically after migration. Zero link changes needed on your affiliates' end.

From their portal, partners can also access promotional assets, submit missing referral claims, update their PayPal email, and download receipts for completed payouts.

Referral Tracking Built for Shopify Apps

Tracking affiliate clicks is relatively straightforward. Tracking whether those clicks became Shopify installs, paid subscribers, and long-term customers is much more complex.

PartnerDock uses a three-layer attribution system designed specifically around how Shopify apps work.

Layer 1: Click tracking. When a merchant clicks an affiliate's PartnerDock link, a 30-day first-party cookie is set. Founders add a single API call to their app's existing install handler (a 5-minute setup), and when a merchant installs, PartnerDock matches the install to the original click. If the tokens match exactly, the referral is labeled "Exact match." If no exact token is found but the same affiliate had a click within 30 days, it's labeled "Likely match: confirm before approving."

Layer 2: Shopify Partner API verification. Founders connect their Shopify Partner API (read-only access: "View financials" and "Manage apps" permissions). PartnerDock syncs install events, subscription charges, gross revenue, net revenue, and Shopify fees per referred shop. Once connected, referrals show verified revenue data alongside the attribution record.

Layer 3: GA4/BigQuery cross-verification. Founders grant PartnerDock's shared service account read access to their BigQuery dataset. No JSON key download or upload required, just grant one email address in Google Cloud IAM. PartnerDock queries shopify_app_install events for both utm_content and mref parameters. Referrals confirmed via BigQuery are labeled "GA4 verified."

Every referral in the founder dashboard shows its attribution source and confidence level. Founders can see at a glance which referrals are solid and which ones need a second look before approving the commission.

An attribution health score on the dashboard shows whether you're at Basic (click tracking only), Verified (+ Partner API), or Complete (+ GA4/BigQuery), and links directly to the setting that would improve it.

Flexible Commission Structures for Different Partner Types

Not every partner should be rewarded in the same way. A YouTube creator may prefer recurring commissions. An agency might negotiate a custom percentage. A strategic integration partner could require a completely different structure.

PartnerDock supports six commission types:

  • Revenue share: a percentage of each recurring subscription charge
  • Fixed per install: a flat bounty for every merchant who installs the app
  • Fixed per signup: a flat amount when a merchant starts a trial
  • First month only: commission on the first charge only
  • Recurring for X months: commission on every charge for a defined period
  • Lifetime: commission on every charge for as long as the merchant stays subscribed

Beyond the program-wide default, founders can set custom terms per individual affiliate and create affiliate groups with different commission structures, for example, a VIP group with higher rates, or an agency group paid on a fixed install bounty.

Manage Commissions Without Spreadsheets

Many affiliate programs begin in spreadsheets. That works for the first few partners. It quickly becomes difficult to answer basic questions: which commissions are pending, which payouts have already been processed, were any adjustments made last month?

PartnerDock centralizes commission management into a clear workflow.

When a founder approves a referral, a commission record is created. Once an affiliate's pending commissions exceed their payout threshold, they're notified that they can request a payout. The founder sees the request in their payout queue, reviews it, and marks it paid, manually or via PayPal CSV export.

Founders can also add one-time bonus rewards to any affiliate (outside of normal commission terms) from the affiliate detail page. Useful for rewarding a particularly strong month or compensating a missed referral.

Payout Management That Creates a Paper Trail

Paying affiliates shouldn't require hours of manual calculations every month. And the record-keeping around it matters more than most founders expect, especially once programs grow.

When a founder marks a payout as paid in PartnerDock, the platform automatically generates a PDF receipt. The receipt shows:

  • The founder's legal business name as the FROM party (not PartnerDock)
  • Affiliate name and PayPal email
  • A per-app commission breakdown: App A: 3 referrals · $89.00, App B: 2 referrals · $53.00
  • Total amount paid
  • A sequential receipt number (RCP-2026-0042)
  • Date paid and payment method

The receipt is stored in PartnerDock, downloadable by both the founder and the affiliate, and emailed to the affiliate automatically. Every receipt your accountant might need is in one place.

Founders can also export a PayPal mass payout CSV, one row per affiliate, formatted for PayPal's bulk upload tool, which significantly reduces the time spent on monthly payout runs.

Multi-App Portfolio? One Affiliate Login Covers All of Them

If you run more than one Shopify app, affiliate management gets disproportionately complicated with most platforms.

An affiliate who promotes three of your apps typically needs three separate logins, maintains three separate portals, and receives three separate payouts per month. That's friction for your affiliates and operational overhead for you.

PartnerDock is built around organization-level affiliate enrollment. An affiliate signs up once and gets access to all your apps from a single portal. They can browse which programs they want to join, apply with one click, and see separate referral links and commission tracking per app, all from the same login.

Payouts consolidate across all apps into a single payment. The PDF receipt shows the per-app breakdown so both you and your affiliate have clean records.

This came directly from feedback from founders running multi-app portfolios who told us per-app affiliate management was their biggest operational frustration.

Built for Agencies, Consultants, Creators, and Technology Partners

Affiliate programs have evolved beyond bloggers sharing referral links. Today's Shopify ecosystem includes agencies recommending software to every client they onboard, independent consultants influencing software decisions during store audits, YouTubers and newsletter publishers driving app discovery, and technology partners with integration-based referral agreements.

Each of these partner types benefits from a dedicated place to track their referrals and commissions, and benefits you more when they can see their own performance without needing to email you for updates.

PartnerDock supports all of these partner types within the same platform, with commission structures that can be tailored to each relationship.

Migrating From Mantle Affiliates Without Disrupting Your Partners

One of the biggest concerns founders shared with us after Mantle's wind-down announcement wasn't choosing new software. It was preserving everything they had already built.

Questions like:

  • Will my existing affiliate links still work?
  • Do I need to ask every partner to update their referral links?
  • What happens to historical commissions and payout records?
  • Can I migrate without disrupting ongoing campaigns?

These are valid concerns. An affiliate program often represents years of relationship building.

Here's how PartnerDock handles the migration specifically.

Existing Mantle links keep working automatically. Mantle's referral links use the format apps.shopify.com/your-app?mref=[code]. PartnerDock preserves each affiliate's exact referral code from their Mantle export, so their existing published links continue to work and are tracked via GA4/BigQuery after migration. No emails to affiliates, no link swaps, no broken URLs.

The migration is done on a personal call. Rather than handing founders a CSV importer and leaving them to figure it out, every PartnerDock migration starts with a free 1:1 call. On the call, we review the exported files together, run a dry-run preview (which shows exactly what will be imported without writing anything to the database), resolve any conflicts, and then run the import. After the call, founders receive a login link to their dashboard showing all migrated affiliates, referrals, and payout history.

What gets migrated:

  • All affiliates with their original referral codes
  • Referral history (which merchant was referred by which affiliate)
  • Payout history (paid, pending, and processing records)
  • Unpaid commission balances
  • Commission rule structure
  • Lifetime and multi-month commission progress
  • Affiliate groups and custom terms

Officially Included in Mantle's Migration Resources

Following Mantle's wind-down announcement, the Mantle team published migration documentation to help founders evaluate alternatives for different parts of their platform.

PartnerDock is included as one of the recommended migration options for founders looking to replace Mantle Affiliates. Shoffi is also listed. Having multiple options documented gives founders the ability to evaluate and choose what works best for their specific situation.

How PartnerDock Compares to the Other Options

Since this article is published by The SaaS Hub and we want to give you an honest picture, here's a brief comparison of the affiliate management options available for Shopify app founders right now.

Shoffi is the most established platform in this category, operating since 2023 with an active marketplace of 10,000+ affiliates. Their platform is mature and proven. The main consideration is pricing: Shoffi plans are gated by how much revenue your affiliates generate per month: Free up to $100/month, Starter ($39) up to $300/month, Growth ($89) up to $3,000/month. As your affiliate program performs better, your plan cost increases. They also offer migration support for Mantle users and are listed on Mantle's official wind-down documentation.

Affilitrak recently added Shopify app support and offers a permanently free tier for founders running programs with their own affiliates: no earnings limit on the free tier. They charge a commission only on affiliates introduced through their marketplace. A good option if you want free and are comfortable with a newer Shopify app offering.

PartnerDock is new (launched June 2026), built in public, and specifically focused on the gaps we heard most often from founders: no earnings limits on any plan, org-level affiliate enrollment for multi-app portfolios, consolidated cross-app payouts, PDF receipts, and a personal migration call. It's an early product and we're adding features weekly based on real user feedback.

None of these is the wrong choice. They serve different needs and different risk tolerances.

Who Is PartnerDock Best For?

PartnerDock is particularly well suited for:

  • Shopify app founders currently on Mantle Affiliates who need to migrate before August 14 and want a personal, assisted migration rather than a self-serve importer
  • Founders running multiple apps who want a single affiliate portal, org-level enrollment, and consolidated payouts across their whole portfolio
  • Early-stage apps that want a genuinely free plan with no earnings limit and no time restriction
  • Founders who want predictable flat-rate pricing that never increases because their affiliate program is working
  • Teams who want proper accounting infrastructure: PDF receipts per payout, clean commission records, full data export at any time

If you run a single app, want access to an existing marketplace of active affiliates, and prefer a more established platform, Shoffi is worth a serious look.
